Who: Jeremy A. Hansen, PhD, CISSP

Dr. Hansen is an assistant professor of computer science at Norwich University whose focus is on computer and network security. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2009 and wrote his dissertation in the field of cryptology. Previous to his employment at Norwich, he spent 10 years in the information technology industry, largely in IT security. He is deeply in tune with how the Internet (as a medium) works, how web site applications work, and how copyrighted media may be copied and distributed both legally and illegally. Professor Hansen is interested in and follows copyright issues very closely. Some of his recent and ongoing research topics include privacy in social networking, security of implantable medical devices, and the use of the Internet for direct democracy.

What: Hansen is available to explain who and what these groups are and how they factor into the bigger picture of media and government transparency.
