Norwich announces
renewal of national computer security designation
NORTHFIELD,
Vt. – Officials
at Norwich University announced that Norwich’s designation as a National Center
of Academic Excellence in Information Systems Security Education, which it has
held since 2001, has been renewed for five years.
The
distinction is designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of
Homeland Security and covers academic years 2012 through 2017.
One
reviewer of Norwich’s submission remarked in the renewal letter, “Norwich
University has made significant enhancement of the curriculum through
additional specialized courses that focus on IA related content. In addition,
the institution has added three new concentrations in Digital Forensics,
Information Warfare, and Advanced INFOSEC.”
Last
year’s NSA announcement noted that graduates of the programs often develop into
cyber experts who help to protect national security information systems, commercial
networks, and critical information infrastructure in both the private and
public sectors – meeting the increasingly urgent needs of the US government,
industry and academia.
“As
the birthplace of ROTC we feel both obligated and honored to be on the
forefront of the modern battlefield, and the renewal of this distinction means
we are staying relevant to what our nation needs from future leaders,” said
President Richard Schneider.
