NEWS RELEASE

Norwich University establishes chapter of international relations honor society

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University officials announced the establishment of an official chapter of Sigma Iota Rho, the Honor Society for International Studies.

Norwich officials submitted an application to make Norwich home to the prestigious society in June and received word of acceptance later that month.

According to Norwich’s June 26 letter of acceptance, “Sigma Iota Rho exists to advance the service and scholarship of students of international relations through the promotion of a deeper understanding of world affairs.”

Norwich offers an undergraduate concentration in international relations as well as the master of arts in diplomacy program through the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies (CGCS), which offers concentrations in international commerce; international terrorism studies and international conflict resolution.

“Norwich University students, both graduate and undergraduate, pursue distinct and unique fields of study in International Relations,” said Dr. Lasha Tchantouridzé, associate professor and director of MDY. “Membership will allow them to connect better with fellow students, and also scholars, from related fields studied at other schools, and Norwich students will be recognized for their unique specializations within the discipline of International Relations.”

“We decided to pursue this in response to a wide interest from MDY students. The networking aspect of this affiliation will be invaluable to both undergraduate and graduate international relations students, and our acceptance has been enthusiastically received,” said Dan Alcorn, the chapter representative and faculty advisor.
